Turbocharging SEZs through bold, private sector-led reform

Speaking on eNCA with Gareth Edwards, CDE executive director Ann Bernstein outlined proposals to transform South Africa’s Special Economic Zones into dynamic engines of new investment and job creation. Commenting on manufacturing opportunities Bernstein said “South Africa needs to become a more competitive economy for exports, and we are underutilising our low skill production capacity to manufacture exportable goods.” This interview follows the release of CDE’s latest Agenda 2024 report, Action Nine: Use the private sector to turbocharge the SEZ programme.
