Joburg’s budget reflects a decade of poor financial management

CDE Executive Director Ann Bernstein speaks to Power FM about CDE’s latest report on Johannesburg’s finances, Joburg’s Broken Budget. She argues that the city’s budget reflects years of poor financial management, saying: “The city for the last decade has been billing customers, assuming everyone will pay them, and spends as though all of that money has been collected. This has built a culture of non-payment in the city.” The interview follows the release of Joburg’s Broken Budget, the latest publication in CDE’s Johannesburg Matters series.
