Covid-19: What does the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown mean for South Africa’s public finances?

CDE covid-19 series webinar

On 24 April 2020, the Centre for Development and Enterprise hosted a virtual discussion on how the Covid-19 disaster, and the response to it, affects South Africa’s public finances.

Michael Sachs, adjunct professor, University of the Witwatersrand and former head of the budget office in National Treasury presented proposals on fiscal imperatives and financial considerations for macro-economic policy in the pandemic.

Lumkile Mondi, senior lecturer, University of Witswatersrand and CDE research associate; and Gina Schoeman, South African economist for the Citibank Global Economics team were respondents.

The conversation was facilitated by CDE’s Ann Bernstein.
