CDE executive director, Ann Bernstein, joined Stephen Grootes on the 702 Money Show to propose radical measures to turn South Africa’s Special Economic Zones into powerful instruments driving new investment and job creation. Bernstein says a zone like Coega “is an ideal place in a region of the country with high unemployment… we can experiment whether we can develop a low skill manufacturing zone that attracts foreign investment and produces goods for exports.” This interview comes after the release of CDE’s latest report; ACTION NINE: Use the private sector to turbocharge the SEZ programme.
