Shocking standards of the state of the SA education system
In a panel discussion with Judge Dennis Davis on eNCA’s Judge for Yourself show, Ann Bernstein was joined by Dr Stephen Taylor from the Department of Education to unpack the quality of basic education in South Africa. She argued, “41% of grade 6 Maths teachers in South Africa have what’s called good proficiency in mathematics but compared to 87% in Zimbabwe and 95% in Kenya.” She further highlighted the issue of SADTU’s dominant role in the education system and South African learners falling behind in international standards.
