November election is Joburg’s last chance

CDE executive director Ann Bernstein spoke to Jacaranda FM about the findings of CDE’s Joburg in Jeopardy, the first report in the Johannesburg Matters series. She warned that political instability has been a major driver of Johannesburg’s decline and that the November local government elections represent a critical opportunity to elect stable, reform-oriented leadership capable of taking the difficult decisions needed to turn the city around. “November is our last chance. If we can’t fix Johannesburg, will we be able to fix South Africa? And that’s the question that we’re asking,” Bernstein said.
