CDE executive director Ann Bernstein joined a panel discussion on Newzroom Afrika to reflect on past State of the Nation Addresses and assess expectations ahead of the upcoming address by Cyril Ramaphosa. Bernstein emphasised South Africa’s deep unemployment crisis, arguing that “we have to change the law in order to make the economy more labour absorbing,” and cautioning that public employment schemes cannot provide a sustainable solution to the country’s jobs challenge.
