Johannesburg’s failure would guarantee national failure

Anne Bernstein, executive director of CDE, discussed her report “Joburg in Jeopardy,” arguing that the failure of Johannesburg, which houses 70% of the country’s large company head offices would guarantee national failure. She highlighted issues including political instability (nine mayors and eight administrations in ten years), deteriorating infrastructure (specifically water systems), and economic stagnation. Bernstein emphasized that “stable political leadership following the November 4th elections is critical for reform”. This interview follows the release of CDE’s newest report Joburg in Jeopardy.
