Johannesburg can be fixed with capable leadership and reform

Metro FMCDE executive director Ann Bernstein spoke to Metro FM about the urgent need for political reform, competent leadership and accountability to reverse Johannesburg’s decline. Bernstein argued that the city’s recovery depends on a reform-minded coalition, qualified professionals running key municipal departments and a commitment to tackling corruption. She stressed that expertise, experience and integrity are essential to restoring effective governance, while highlighting the importance of voters in determining Johannesburg’s future. “Expertise matters, experience matters, and integrity matters,” Bernstein said. The interview follows the release of CDE’s fifth Johannesburg Matters report, Time for Action: Corruption in Joburg.
