Azhar Cachalia was a judge of South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal from 2006 until his retirement in 2021. Now a visiting professor at Rhodes University and chair of Freedom Under Law, he was previously a technical expert on the Constitutional Assembly and a judge of the Johannesburg High Court (2001 to 2005).
