Can special economic zones boost the economy?

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika’s Cathy Mohlahlana, Ann Bernstein commented on CDE’s new report titled What if South Africa had a special economic zone that was actually special? In the interview, they discussed special economic zones addressing some of the constraints to investment, the value (or lack thereof) of existing special economic zones, the need for labour intensive low-skilled employment. “Factories should be allowed to get skilled managers into South Africa who will understand global supply chains,” said Ann.
